Review Policy and Procedure

All manuscripts must be submitted in English. Submitted manuscripts that do not fit to the Journal scope, or do not conform to the Journal of Tropical Crop Science guidelines, will be returned to authors for correction. A manuscript number is assigned to each manuscript, which will be sent to the corresponding author.

The Managing Editor will evaluate the submitted manuscript on a prequalification step for the suitability to the Journal scope and compliance to the Journal guidelines and decide whether the paper is recommended to go the review process, returned to the author for revision, or the quality has not met the journal’s requirement so that it cannot be considered at all.

All papers that have passed the Editorial evaluation and found suitable for review are subject to a double anonymous peer-review process by reviewers that are experts in the area/theme of the subject. The factors that are considered in review are relevance, originality, soundness of method and data analysis, significance, readability and language.

Reviewers are asked to classify the paper as publishable, publishable with revisions, or not publishable. Reviewers’ evaluations include an explicit recommendation of what to do with the manuscript. Reviewers’ evaluations include an explicit recommendation of what to do with the manuscript. Comments and review results can be seen by the authors through the journal author page.

Referees and authors are not known to each other. The reviewers will evaluate the manuscript and return it with their recommendation to the Managing Editor. Reviewers are asked to classify the paper as publishable, publishable with revisions, or not publishable. If one of the peer reviewers recommends rejection, the Editor will assign a new reviewer or consult the Editorial Board to decide the status of the manuscript.

Reviewed manuscripts will be sent back to the corresponding author along with comments from reviewers. Revisions can be more than once, and the final acceptance depends on the extent of revision. The authors are requested to submit explanations on how the revisions were made and the reason why they do not agree with the reviewers for those points on which they have no revision. The revised manuscript will need to be sent back to the journal.

The Editor checks the revised manuscript and gives a recommendation to the Chief Editor if the manuscript should be returned to the authors, accepted, or rejected. The accepted manuscript will be processed for editing and lay out process by the Technical Editor. The journal will then send a galley proof to authors to check prior to publication. For each of the above process, the corresponding authors will be notified through emails and notifications on the journal platform.

Processing Time: average 20 weeks from submission to publication
